We finally sold our house. (YEAH!) It’s a pretty big deal around here. I’ve been keeping the house perfect for over 4 months with 3 kids in it- just ready for a showing at any minute. It has all paid off and now I have 2 weeks to move our family of 5 out of town.

HOW AM I DOING IT?
I’m actually finding the moving part to be easy- you just have to be super organized and go for it.

1. The biggest tip I have for anybody moving this summer is to sell what you can. It’s a great time to downsize and make a few extra bucks. You can slowly buy back furniture that will work in your new space.

2. Reserve your moving truck, moving people or Uhaul early. So many people move in the summer and don’t think to do this ahead of time.

3. Change your utilities early. Don’t wait until the last day to call because they may not be able to turn things off that day and you are going to pay for it when you aren’t living there.

4. Pack in zones. I have packed our entire basement and all storage areas ahead of time. I know that we don’t use these things daily so they are boxed up and ready. I will pack the kids, kitchen and bath last.

5. Clean as you pack. Run blankets through the washer so they are ready when you are tired. Wipe down pictures and decorations so that you aren’t bringing dust into your new home.

6. Catch up on appointments! Visit your doctors, dentists, mechanics, etc. prior to your move. It may take you a while to find these people in your new town- so do it before you move and you will have time to research later.

7. Take breaks. Go out for dinner to make things easier. Go for a walk or take a quick nap. You don’t want to get so run down from the move that you can’t enjoy your new surroundings!
