cleaning the hot plate

Thanks Dave!
I love to cook with a hot plate, especially pancakes and french toast. We had the clean up afterwards though because it is too big to fit in the dishwasher.

I was telling my mother we just bought a new hot plate and how much we hated the cleanup and she said when she was waitressing in her day the cooks, while the surface was still hot, poured club soda on the surface and wiped with a rag. So, I re-heated the hotplate, took a kitchen scrub brush, and poured club soda onto the hot surface. Then I threw a damp dishcloth onto the hot surface and moved it around with the scrub brush. The surface looks like new and all the grease is gone. What makes this especially great is we don’t have to get that big clunky thing under the faucet or spray water all over the counter.

This is an awesome tip. Could be applied to a number of heated cooking elements.
